The Dr. Marvalene Hughes Student Leadership Conference is a two-day conference where students will learn about developing and cultivating leadership skills. Students hear from featured speakers and attend breakout sessions on the first day. The second day will involve a ropes course and a community service experience in the Stockton area. The conference is open to all students from Stanislaus State, Modesto Junior College, Merced College and San Joaquin Delta College.

The theme of the conference is "We are Resilient, We will Renew, We are Warrior Strong!" and offers:
• Four information-packed themes from which students can choose for their three breakout sessions.
• A keynote address by a featured speaker.
• Inspirational words from a Stanislaus State alumni.

The conference focuses on the many ways students can grow and develop their leadership skills, and provides opportunities to use those skills in service to the community. Breakout session themes include:
┬À Discovering the Leader in You
┬À Leading Through Diversity and Inclusion
┬À Serving in and Leading Student Organizations
┬À Leadership Education and Community Leaders

The annual conference, celebrating its fourth year, is named for Dr. Marvalene Hughes, president emerita of Stanislaus State, who led the University for 11 years and retired in 2005. All students who attend will earn a leadership certificate. Stanislaus State students will be eligible to apply for one of two $500 leadership awards.
